Your experiences in D.C. will expose you to new ideas and ways of thinking. That’s true of any class or internship, but living in one of the country’s most vibrant media, technical and cultural capitals will help define you as a young professional and equip you with knowledge and perspectives that will set you up for further academic and professional success.
Working in Washington
All students in the CMCI in D.C. program are guaranteed a substantive, professional internship. Working with our partner, the Washington Media Institute, you’ll be matched with an internship that fits your skill levels, interests and career goals. You’ll spend four days—about 32 hours—each week at your internship. Because each internship is curated to a student’s aspirations, it can take several weeks or more to match you with an employer.Ìý
In addition to your internship, you’ll typically attend classes two nights a week in the fall or spring, or one night a week in the summer. You’ll also have classes or field trips on Fridays. Life in the city
Housing is coordinated directly through the Washington Media Institute, and students live in fully furnished corporate apartments near the program site. The apartments usually have two bedrooms, with four students sharing an apartment (two students per bedroom). The apartments are in secure, modern buildings with recently updated amenities, and most have onsite gyms. Each apartment includes linens, towels, a fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi and a large-screen television.Ìý
When you’re not at your internship or in class, there’s a world of history, culture and museums to explore in D.C. and a vibrant nightlife for young people. Getting around D.C. is easy. There’s a great public transit system that includes buses and the Metro subway system. In addition, there are bicycles and scooters to rent, and the city is very walkable.
