Susan Massey is a Teaching Associate Professor working at the intersection of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, History/Theory and Representation. She has taught design studios, theory, communications, and construction with a keen interest in helping students develop their voice as agents for our built environment.

Prior to joining the faculty at ENVD, Susan taught at University of Colorado Denver, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University) and Monash University in Australia, where she was a Fulbright scholar conducting research on affordable housing policies and practices at the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute.

Susan received a dual Master of Architecture and Master of Science in History/Theory (with high distinction) from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia. Her MArch thesis work was installed in the Venice Biennale.

A proud alum of the Rural Studio outreach program, Susan recalls the experience as “foundationally transformative”.

In addition to her teaching experience, Susan practiced for 15 years with award winning design firms Arch11 (鶹), and Gensler in Washington, DC, where she enjoyed giving weekend tours as a docent at the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
