Zannah聽Matson鈥檚聽research聽and聽design聽work聽focuses on the histories and contemporary reinterpretations of landscapes throughout processes of colonization, extraction, and state infrastructure projects. Her current work traces the afterlives of coloniality through highway construction in Colombia鈥檚 Eastern piedmont landscapes to think about power structures, transportation infrastructure, and visual representation in Latin American landscapes more generally.聽
Zannah is on the Editorial Board of the聽Journal of Architectural Education, and the Social Media Editor for Landscape Research Journal. She is an active member of Beyond Extraction, which is a collective of researchers, writers, artists, and activists who come together to critically investigate and resist extraction in its various forms.
Zannah has previously worked as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Landscape Architecture at Penn State University and as a Design for Spatial Justice Fellow at the University of Oregon Department of Landscape Architecture.聽She has聽a聽Master聽in聽Landscape Architecture聽from聽the聽Harvard聽Graduate聽School聽of聽Design, and in professional practice worked with聽OPSYS聽Landscape聽Infrastructure Lab as聽Project聽Manager聽and聽Lead聽Exhibition聽Designer聽for聽the聽Canada聽Pavilion聽at聽the聽Venice聽2016聽Architecture Biennale.聽Matson is currently a聽PhD聽Candidate聽in聽Human聽Geography聽at聽the聽University聽of聽Toronto, where her work has been funded by a SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Doctoral Award and an Ontario Graduate Scholarship.
