This week, the Equity and Advocacy Committee will be having their first reading of their Ìý

International students suffer from the limitations of work restrictions due to university policy and explicit restrictions from funding sources. The rising inflation paired with the lack of summer funding, has effects on the longevity of specialty/niche programs within the university. International students are choosing to attend institutions that offer financial aid that includes summer funding, causing recruitment in these programs to be stagnant with candidate placement.
This resolution aims to find solutions for the current summer funding barriers, specifically for international graduate students. Whilst some programs do offer summer funding, international graduate students have consistently reported that the amount does not cover the steep cost of living in Â鶹¹ÙÍø. Offering international graduate students summer stipends (mid-May to August) after enrollment during the entirety of their program would open the doors to increasing recruitment, retention, and graduation rates.
