Metal insulated varistors (MIVs) are a new class of transient voltage surge suppressor based on micron-sized metallic particles which have been encapsulated by an ultra-thin, conformal, insulating oxide film applied via atomic layer deposition (ALD).Ìý MIVs have been demonstrated to achieve nanosecond-scale transient response times, ultra-low leakage currents, and low capacitances.Ìý MIVs may be fabricated in a variety of shapes to fit particular applications, ranging from coaxial line protectors to leaded disc packages.
