The summer months serve as an excellent opportunity for our Law Buffs to dive into their areas of interest and take on summer jobs and internships that help them develop their legal skills. In this series, we are thrilled to highlight just a few of our rising 2L and 3L students and learn more about what they are up to this summer. Ìý
This week, we are highlighting Bob Feit ’26, who is working as a Law Clerk for Nazarenus Stack & Wombacher and as a research assistant for Prof. Mark Squillace.Ìý
What interested you in these roles?Ìý
BF: I come from an environmental background, working as a geologist before coming to Colorado Law, so I was interested in NSW due to its position as a premiere water law firm in Denver. Being from the east coast, the concept of water law was foreign to me, so I was interested in experiencing new challenges and learning more about that niche portion of natural resources/property law. As for my work with Professor Squillace, my interest in natural resources law was the driver there as well: we are working on chapters for a new natural resources law textbook.Ìý
What has your day-to-day been like in this job?Ìý
BF: For NSW, the day to day is mainly research, more research, and then condensing said research into memos, all on various topics. So far, I have investigated contract indemnification, eminent domain, federal preemption, priority dates for water rights, failure to disclose water rights, and State Engineers’ powers across several Western states. In the textbook, I have reviewed and created questions for chapters concerning rangelands and forests.Ìý
What has been your favorite part of this work so far?Ìý
BF: My favorite part so far has been engaging in new topics that I have had no background with. Learning on the job, while difficult, is rewarding when youfinally get somewhere. I've enjoyed my research into these new areas of water and natural resources law.Ìý
What do you hope to learn from your time in these positions?Ìý
BF: I hope to learn whatever I can in water law, from concepts to procedures, as well as improve my research and writing skills.Ìý
Besides work, what else have you been up to this summer?Ìý
BF: I was lucky enough to be able to go to Ireland earlier in the summer for a family reunion, taking in the sunshine and the sea in Buncrana, Co. Donegal, walking around Derry, and visiting Malin Head, the northernmost point in Ireland.Ìý
