He has taught&nbsp;as a fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, the University of London, the University of California Berkeley, and Princeton University. Mossa delivered a guest lecture at the University of Colorado in honor of Religious Studies Professor Emeritus Fred Denny.</p><p>The article by Clint Talbott, titled "<a href="http://artsandsciences.colorado.edu/magazine/2011/04/viewing-the-koran-as-holy-and-historical-text/" rel="nofollow">Viewing the Koran as Holy and Historical Text</a>," begins as follows:</p><p>Long before Egyptians rose up against dictator Hosni Mubarak, Egyptian authorities prosecuted an Islamic scholar who argued that Muslims should view the Koran as both a holy text and a historical document.</p><p>Ebrahim Moosa, an associate professor of Islamic studies at Duke University, believes that scholar was on the right track. Noting that vigorous discourse produced “a kind of vibrancy” in Catholicism, Moosa says, “In the Muslim tradition, this work has not really been done yet.”</p><p>Moosa made these observations in early February on the University of Colorado campus. His appearance was part of an event honoring a CU expert on Islam, Professor Frederick Denny. The visiting scholars--depicted in the photograph above with Reliigous Studies and Journalism faculty--are: Dr. Chris Helland (Sociology of Religion, Dalhousie University), Dr. Heidi Campbell (Communications, Texas A&amp;M), and Dr. Piotr Bobkowski (Postdoctoral Fellow, School of Journalism and Mass Communications, UNC-Chapel Hill) .</p><p>The discussion touched on following questions:</p><ul><li>"What constitutes an authentic or inauthentic conversion online?"</li><li>"How do people represent their religious beliefs (or non-belief) in a social networking profile?"</li><li>"Is the iPhone confession app seen as a supplement or replacement to in-person practice?", "What makes a cell phone kosher?"</li><li>"If a computer is rotating a prayer wheel, is there merit generated for the person who owns the computer?"</li><li>"How are in-person religious communities influenced by online religious communities?"</li></ul><p>These and other issues were debated by students, faculty, and visiting scholars.
