Donating blood this fall is a simple yet profound way to make a difference. CU �鶹�� Staff Council, along with longtime partner Vitalant, is excited to announce an upcoming blood drive! Each donation can save up to three lives, making a direct impact on individuals facing medical emergencies, surgeries, or chronic illnesses. By rolling up your sleeve this October, you're becoming a beacon of hope and vitality for those whose lives depend on the generosity of donors like you.

Why: Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Donating blood is a selfless and impactful act of kindness, and each donation can save up to three different lives. Hospitals in the area and medical facilities rely on voluntary blood donors to provide a steady blood supply for medical procedures, surgeries, and emergencies.

We are committed to achieving our blood drive goals and Staff Council is confident that the CU �鶹�� community will rise to the occasion. With your support and participation, we can surpass our October target of sixty units per day and make a remarkable impact with each donation.

How to prepare:

Review eligibility criteria: Donor Eligibility
Eat a healthy meal and stay hydrated before your donation appointment
Bring a valid photo ID
Try and get a good night��s sleep the day before

The CU �鶹�� Division of Public Safety is making it easier for CU students, faculty, and staff members to access its CU: Run, Hide, Fight active harmer response class through a SkillSoft course that launched this spring.

The course, which covers topics such as how to recognize and quickly respond to an active harmer situation, includes scenarios that help participants put their knowledge into practice. The virtual, text-based course takes about 15 minutes to complete.

Law enforcement agencies, including the CU �鶹�� Police Department, have trained on responses to active harmer incidents. Be mindful that police response will occur as expediently as possible, but in the first few minutes of such an incident, you may have to rely on your own actions to assure your safety.

��We are pleased to be able to present this virtual course that anyone can access, at any time,�� said Garry DeJong, Director of Events and Emergency Management at CU �鶹��. ��We recommend that all CU affiliates watch the course, possibly making it a group activity for work teams, classes, and other groups, to ensure as many people as possible are exposed to this valuable content,�� he said.

The virtual course can serve as an introduction to more comprehensive active harmer response training offered by the university, including a longer video-based course and/or in-person training.

CU �鶹�� uses the Department of Homeland Security��s Run, Hide, Fight response philosophy and CUPD regularly hosts in-depth, 90-minute active harmer response classes for faculty, staff, and students.

How to access the course:

Log onto your portal (MyCUInfo or BuffPortal).
Click on the SkillSoft tile or search for it in BuffPortal if it is not saved to your homepage.
In the ��Search Content�� text box in the upper right type CU: Run, Hide, Fight, and click the spyglass search button.
Then click on the launch button in the results list.

In addition to active harmer response training and tools, CU �鶹�� has confidential support resources and anonymous reporting options for the campus community.

CU �鶹��s Student Support and Case Management office connects students with assistance, such as mental health resources, support resources, and intervention for students. If the concern involves an employee, the Behavioral Intervention Team will be made aware.
The Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance is where responsible employees, as mandatory reporters, are required to report information about protected-class discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.
The Office of Victim Assistance offers confidential support, including free, trauma-specific counseling services as well as victim advocacy (helping people know their options and get assistance navigating systems), to CU �鶹�� students, staff, and faculty who have experienced traumatic events, including but not limited to crime, abuse, violence, harassment, stalking, discrimination, and more.
Counseling and Psychiatric Services offers confidential, on-campus mental health and psychiatric services for a variety of concerns such as academics, anxiety, body image, depression, relationships, substance use, and more. This office serves CU �鶹�� students.
The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program offers confidential counseling to serve the emotional and psychological needs of CU �鶹�� employees. All FSAP staff are trained as generalist counselors and are equipped to deal with a wide range of mental health, personal and work-related issues. You must be a CU �鶹�� employee to use FSAP services.
CU �鶹�� is committed to continuously improving our violence prevention and education efforts to meet the needs of the campus community. We encourage a campus-wide culture of training, reporting and support through our Don't Ignore It website. Anonymous tips can also be shared through CU �鶹�� Safe2Tell.

The easy-to-access material mimics in-person presentation content and is now available to all CU System affiliates online.

Affinity groups are intended to provide opportunities to facilitate growth, belonging, and support for staff and faculty by serving as spaces where folks with shared identities and experiences can create community with one another.

There are currently nine active affinity groups at CU �鶹��: CU Moms, Adelante Latinx Affinity Group, Black at CU, the Alliance for Neurodiversity, Hopeful Hearts, QTPOC
Crossroads, Faculty of Color and Friends, LGBTQ+, and the Native and Indigenous Affinity Group.

You can learn more about the mission of each group by visiting the CU �鶹�� Affinity Group Sharepoint site. Please note that you must be logged in with your Identikey in order to view the Affinity Group website. Each active affinity group hosts their own
events organized by their group lead, and information about their meetings is available on their SharePoint site. To join an affinity group, go to that group's SharePoint site and complete an interest form.

Don't see a group that you'd like to join? Consider starting your own! All you need is five people who are interested and a completed Affinity Group Application Form, also available on the website.

$25 Trial Membership: Staff can take advantage of a one-month trial membership. Access both Rec Centers and group fitness classes for just $25. Use the Be Colorado Move program and earn your $25 back! Regular membership fees apply after the one month trial period ends.

$25 Sunrise Membership: Access both Rec Centers from 6 am - 12 pm Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday for only $25 per month. Sunrise is only available to faculty/staff, not spouses, partners, or dependents.

Beginning May 22nd, Employee only yoga (no rec membership needed) from 12:30p - 1:30p will be offered every Wednesday.
