Bolder Â鶹¹ÙÍø race officials have announced that a $1,000 reward will be paid for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons responsible for vandalizing the statue of legendary runner Frank Shorter.
The statue of the Olympic gold medalist, located at Folsom Avenue and Stadium Drive, was toppled before dawn on Oct. 30. Authorities said a hacksaw was used to sever the supporting leg at about ankle height.
Created by Nebraska sculptor Ted Long, the statue was valued at an estimated $50,000 and was donated to the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø by The Bank of Â鶹¹ÙÍø, the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Road Runners and the Bolder Â鶹¹ÙÍø.
It was dedicated on May 13, shortly before the annual running of the 1998 Bolder Â鶹¹ÙÍø. Shorter is a co-founder of the popular 10K road race that is held each spring.
Paul Tabolt, vice chancellor for administration, has pledged that the statue will be repaired and reinstalled.
