About 40 students from University Hill Elementary School will be treated to breakfast and an exhibition by rope-skipping experts on Nov. 18 as part of CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍøÂ’s Breakfast Club.

The media is invited to cover this final workshop, a unique community service project of nutrition and exercise developed through the Farrand Academic Program at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø. Farrand students act as personal trainers for the elementary school students.

The Skip-Its, a group from Douglass Elementary School in Â鶹¹ÙÍø County trained by physical education teacher Rich Cendali, will conduct a clinic teaching tricks, stunts and special competition routines to the kids.

This is the sixth meeting of the Breakfast Club, also known as El Club de Desayuno, a before school program that offers an exercise session and a free nutritious breakfast. Previous meetings have combined good breakfasts with clinics on such activities as karate, aerobics, folk dancing and running. The Breakfast Club will meet at 8 a.m. in the gymnasium of the University Hill Elementary School, located at 956 16th St. in Â鶹¹ÙÍø.

The program was developed by Laura de Ghetaldi, a lecturer for the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø kinesiology department and School of Education. She said that in addition to providing a nutritious meal to the children, the program "directly links the ongoing research that supports the importance of exercise linked to wellness."
