DePAUL UNIVERSITY LAW PROFESSOR
M. Cherif Bassiouni, professor of law at DePaul University and president of the International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences, will deliver the 42nd annual John R. Coen Lecture in the Fleming Law Building on the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø campus.
Titled "Combating Impunity for International Crimes," the lecture will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom. The talk is free and open to the public.
Bassiouni specializes in U.S. and international criminal law and violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms. He has written 42 books on U.S. Criminal Law, international and comparative criminal law and human rights and has worked as a consultant to the U.S. Department of State and the Justice Department on international drug trafficking, terrorism and on the defense of the U.S. hostages in Iran.
Bassiouni also has served on a number of United Nations committees and is currently the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Restitution, Compensation and Rehabilitation for victims of grave violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The Coen Lecture Series is sponsored by a gift from Adrian S. Coen in memory of her husband, John, who was a distinguished member of the Colorado bar. The income from the Coen Trust is used to bring distinguished scholars, lawyers and jurists to the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø School of Law for public lectures.
Continuing Legal Education credit is offered. The lecture has been approved for one credit in general Continuing Legal Education.
