Steven Manaster, a professor of finance and director of the Financial Risk Management Center at Virginia Tech University, has accepted the position of dean of the College of Business and Administration at CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø.
His appointment is pending approval by the Board of Regents.
Manaster, who serves as the chief economist for the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, will bring to the college a wealth of professional and academic experience. "I am delighted at Steve Manaster's appointment as dean of the College of Business and Administration at CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø," said Interim Dean Dipankar Chakravarti.
Chakravarti said Manaster is a highly regarded academic with an outstanding track record in administration and business outreach.
"I am confident that his leadership will move the college to the next level of excellence in its academic programs and its engagement with the business community. I look forward to working with him to build a truly first-rate business college at CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø," Chakravarti said. "IÂ’m positive this college will continue to grow and thrive under his leadership."
"I am enthusiastic about Steve Manaster's appointment as dean of the college of business," said Phil DiStefano, vice chancellor for academic affairs. "Steve understands that to take the college to the next level of excellence, he will have to preserve the core areas of finance, marketing, information systems, management and accounting and stimulate progress in new programs such as executive education," DiStefano said.
"I am also looking forward to having Steve work with the faculty to integrate the core areas more fully into our entrepreneurship program and real estate program."
Prior to his position at Virginia Tech, Manaster was a professor at the University of Utah for 13 years. During that time he was the Wasatch Advisors Distinguished Faculty Scholar and Associate Dean for Faculty, Research and Ph.D. Programs.
Manaster has also taught finance at New York University, the University of Chicago, the University of Florida and the University of Illinois, Chicago.
Manaster earned his doctorate and MBA at the University of Chicago and he has a bachelorÂ’s degree from Oberlin College.
