Local students were among the more than 3,800 who received degrees May 14 in spring commencement exercises at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø. Of the degrees awarded, 2,872 were bachelor's degrees, 686 were master's degrees, 187 were doctoral degrees and 131 were law degrees.

Dennis Van Gerven, professor of anthropology and 1998 Colorado Professor of the Year, gave the commencement address.

The Chancellor's Recognition Award, for students receiving all A's in their college careers, was given to three students: Grey Robert Greenwald of Glenwood Springs, who received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; Robyn Elizabeth Harrison of Sedalia, who received a bachelor's degree in political science; and Danielle Kay Jagoda of Leawood, Kansas, who received a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Greenwald also was named outstanding graduate of the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

The outstanding graduates named by the other schools and colleges were John Daniel Selle of Salida, College of Architecture and Planning; Gretchen Anne Schaper of Â鶹¹ÙÍø, College of Arts and Sciences; Jessie Colene Tiernan of Costa Mesa, Calif., College of Business and Administration; Gretchen Hutter of Wauwatosa, Wis., School of Education; Alicia Berry of Fort Collins, School of Journalism and Mass Communication; and Brian Thomas Ebert of Kankakee, Ill., College of Music.
