The University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø will confer 1,856 degrees on Saturday, Dec. 18, during its final commencement ceremonies of the century at the Coors Events/Conference Center.

The winter commencement ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. and last approximately an hour. Guests are requested to be in their seats by 9:15 a.m. Because no tickets are required for the ceremony, early arrival is strongly suggested.

There will be 1,362 bachelorÂ’s degrees awarded, 365 masterÂ’s degrees, 118 doctoral degrees and 11 law degrees. The College of Arts and Sciences will lead the bachelorÂ’s degree count with 790 degrees, followed by Business with 273, Engineering with 164, Journalism with 67, Architecture and Planning with 54 and Music with 14. The Graduate School will award 470 degrees and the Business Graduate School 13 degrees.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Distinguished Professor David Prescott will give the commencement address. Prescott, a professor in the molecular, cellular and developmental biology department, is a renowned cancer expert, who has won numerous awards for his teaching and research.

Prescott, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and part of the President’s Teaching Scholars Program — established in 1989 to honor and reward a select number of faculty members from the four CU campuses for exemplary teaching and scholarship — lectures often on health issues and the prevention of cancer.

CU President John C. Buechner will read the traditional Norlin Charge — the words from a speech given by former CU President George Norlin to the graduating class of 1935.

Free parking for guests will be available in the Regent Drive Autopark (lot 436 on Regent Drive), and other lots near the Coors Events/Conference Center, and at all campus meters. The meters along Regent Drive and lots 430 and 440 north of the Events/Conference Center will be reserved for elderly and disabled guests. Access to lot 420 will be available for close-in drop-off only.

Guests with disabilities who have questions or need additional assistance should contact the Office of Disability Services at (303) 492-8671. Anyone with special parking needs may contact CU Parking Services at (303) 492-2322.
