The president of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, Robert Weisbuch, will deliver a lecture, "Unleashing the Humanities: The Liberal Arts Take Over America," on Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. in Old Main Chapel on the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø campus.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will address the place of the humanities -- including literature, history and philosophy -- in contemporary society. Weisbuch is leading a national effort titled "The Humanities at Work" that seeks to connect work in the humanities with the concerns of society at large. The program has received coverage in the Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle of Higher Education.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø is a major partner in the Woodrow Wilson FoundationÂ’s efforts. CU was selected as one of 15 institutions nationwide to host a new Woodrow Wilson Postdoctoral Fellow in the Humanities, with the first to be on campus in the fall 2000 semester.

CU also was one of only three winners nationwide of a $10,000 Woodrow Wilson Innovation Award for a new program placing graduate students in the humanities into internships with local corporations. Partnerships have been created with IBM, Roche Colorado, Sun Microsystems and netLibrary, among others.

The programs are administered through CUÂ’s Center for Humanities and the Arts, which also is hosting WeisbuchÂ’s visit.
