Have you ever wondered what it's like to be an astronaut and fly in space? One lucky third, fourth or fifth-grade class from the Â鶹¹ÙÍø area will have the chance to ask NASA astronauts these questions and more.
The University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø and the Daily Camera in Education program have partnered to offer a contest for an hour-long one-on-one meeting with the astronauts, all of whom are CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø alumni. The class also will go on a field trip to the CU Heritage Center to see the space exhibit on Thursday, May 11, at 9 a.m.
Local third through fifth-grade classes that are interested must submit one question they would ask the astronauts to the Daily Camera by Wednesday, May 3, to be entered in the drawing for the field trip.
Questions can be emailed to Christine Labozan, Daily Camera in Education manager, at labozanc@thedailycamera.com, faxed to (303) 473-1430 or mailed to 1048 Pearl St., Â鶹¹ÙÍø, CO 80302. The winning class will be notified on May 4.
CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø's Office of Community Relations and the CU Heritage Center are co-sponsoring the field trip with the astronauts, who will be in Â鶹¹ÙÍø in mid-May to attend the university commencement ceremony. The ceremony will highlight CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø's significant role in space exploration. Two of the astronauts will speak during the ceremony and each one is being awarded an honorary degree.
