A lecture on "Black Pioneers in the Rocky Mountain Region" will be presented by Paul Stewart, founder of the Black American West Museum of Denver on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Public Library Auditorium.
Stewart is a master storyteller who has researched the lives and accomplishments of African Americans who lived in Colorado and the West from the 1880s to the early 1900s. The stories of these people, and their triumphs over incredible odds, have been largely overlooked by historians. Through their stories, illustrated with slides from his collection of rare photographs, Stewart will enlighten the audience to the roles that African American pioneers played during this time period.
The lecture is free and open to the public. The event is cosponsored by the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Center of the American West, the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Public Library Foundation and the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Chancellor's Office.
