Cal Skaggs, producer of the five-part documentary series "Local News," will be featured as a guest lecturer at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø on Oct. 24 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Hale Science Building, room 270.
Skaggs is a nationally recognized documentary filmmaker. His current project is a co-production of Lumiere Productions and WNET, the PBS station in New York. "Local News" is a five-part series that is currently airing on PBS stations nationwide. Skagg's visit is hosted by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and was made possible with funding from the Ford Foundation.
"This extraordinary documentary series looks at how one local news station attempts to balance the competing demands of ratings and service to the community," said Meg Moritz, associate dean.
"While it takes place in one newsroom in Charlotte, N.C., its insights are instructive for newsrooms around the country," said Moritz. "We are especially happy to have its executive producer here to discuss the state of local news with our students, many of whom will be working in local stations around the country once they graduate."
CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø's School of Journalism and Mass Communication provides a variety of degree programs for students interested in journalism and media careers. Undergraduate program offerings include advertising, broadcast news, broadcast production management, news-editorial and media studies.
