A groundbreaking ceremony to mark the construction of new student housing at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø's Williams Village complex will be held Aug. 16 from 11 a.m. to noon.
The event will take place in an open area between Darley Commons and the tennis courts. Free parking will be available in an adjacent lot off of Baseline Road, near 30th Avenue.
The Williams Village student housing expansion project is specifically designed for upper-division students and will feature apartment-style housing and academic support facilities and services.
Construction began in June. The developers, American Campus Communities and Swinerton Builders, plan to make 495 beds available for occupancy in 2003 and 499 in 2004, for a total of 994 beds. Housing for an additional 1,000 students could be available in fall 2008, given favorable market conditions. Financing is provided from revenue bonds issued through the CU Foundation.
Speakers will include University of Colorado President Elizabeth Hoffman, CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Chancellor Richard L. Byyny, Dr. John DeLauro, chair of the Board of Trustees for the University of Colorado Foundation, Â鶹¹ÙÍø Mayor Will Toor and Bill Bayless, executive vice president and chief operating officer for American Campus Communities.
