Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, City Auditor Dennis Gallagher, City Councilwoman Rosemary Rodriguez and Lakewood Mayor Steve Burkholder will be among the featured readers during the eight annual "Words to Stir the Soul: Readings from the American West" events presented by the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Center of the American West.
Hickenlooper will participate in the Denver event on Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the LoDo Tattered Cover Book Store at 16th and Wynkoop streets. A second group of readers will be featured Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in Eaton Humanities Building room 150 on the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø campus.
Both events, featuring different reading selections, are free and open to the public.
The popular program celebrates the rich literary heritage of the American West. More than a dozen well-known community members, authors and CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø professors and students will read segments from their favorite Western-inspired literature for up to five minutes each.
Other readers in Denver will include CU Regent Susan Kirk, author Manuel Ramos, attorney Hubert A. Farbes and the former chairman of the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø College Republicans, Brad Jones. Appearing in Â鶹¹ÙÍø will be Daily Camera Editor Susan Deans, former state Rep. Ruth Wright, CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dean of Libraries James Williams and College of Arts and Sciences Dean Todd Gleeson.
A reception will follow the Â鶹¹ÙÍø event outside Humanities 150 in the first floor lounge area.
