Pink lights will illuminate the west steps of Norlin Library at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø through the end of October as part of a worldwide commemoration of International Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Four lanterns and six spotlights will provide pink lighting at night for the steps and pillars of the library thanks to a cooperative effort by the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Office of Community Relations, University Libraries and Facilities Management. The office of Chancellor Richard Byyny, who is a physician, provided support for the lighting.

This is the first time Norlin Library has joined the Global Landmark Illumination Campaign, an effort in over 40 countries to light monuments in pink during October to promote awareness of breast cancer. Other notable participating locations this year include the Empire State Building in New York City, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, Niagara Falls, the Tokyo Tower and many others.

Members of the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Women's Resource Center and College Students Against Cancer will staff information tables at the west entrance of Norlin Library this week and next to distribute ribbons and breast cancer awareness materials provided by the Wardenburg Health Center. The tables will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 20, 21, 27 and 28.
