Five jazz vocalists from the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø will open the Feb. 25 session of the Colorado State Senate with a performance of three songs.
The acappella group, comprised of students both resident and non-resident, undergraduates and graduate, music and non-music majors, will sing for 10 minutes to start the 9 a.m. session of the senate. Their set will include special arrangements of the Beatles' "In My Life" and Duke Ellington's "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)."
CU Vocal Jazz features Elise Diner and Allana Winsted, both freshman non-music majors from Englewood, Chris Williams, a freshman business major from Denver, Sarah Kirsch, a senior voice performance major from Calgary, and Dave Wiske, a doctoral candidate in trombone performance from Thornton.
Supervised by CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Director of Jazz Studies John Davis, the students formed the extracurricular group this fall and are not receiving course credits for their work. Davis hopes to convert the all-volunteer group into a for-credit ensemble in the department starting next fall.
