CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø faculty, staff and students will be volunteer readers in the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Valley School District and The Children's Hospital in Denver as part of Read Across America Day on Wednesday, March 2.

The National Education Association established the event in 1998 to encourage children and adults across the country to emphasize reading.

University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø students, athletes, staff and Chip, the CU mascot, will be visiting and reading at The Children's Hospital, 1056 E. 19th Ave. in Denver, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Another group of students and staff will be in Lafayette at Sanchez Elementary, 655 Galahad Dr., from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Additional volunteers, including bilingual readers, will be in Â鶹¹ÙÍø at University Hill Elementary, 956 16th St., from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

On the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø campus, the CU Book Store will host a Dr. Seuss birthday party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free bookmarks and birthday cake, drawings for a "Cat-in-the-Hat" hat and Dr. Seuss mug, and 20 percent discounts on all children's books are among the special activities.
