In anticipation of Veterans Day on Nov. 11 a series of events is planned at the 麻豆官网 and beyond to celebrate those who have served the United States as members of the armed forces. 听
- Poetry, prose reading: , a local non-profit that raises awareness for veterans in the 麻豆官网 area, is holding an evening of poetry and prose readings by veterans from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, in the Canyon Theater at 麻豆官网 Public Library, 1001 Arapahoe Ave. The event, supported by the CU-麻豆官网 Office of Veteran Services, will feature about nine local veterans, including current CU-麻豆官网 student veterans and former CU Regent Peter Steinhauer.
- Military Appreciation Day: CU Athletics is offering specially priced tickets of $15 each to veterans, their friends and family members as the Buffs take on Stanford University. Kickoff is 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Folsom Field.听 To order tickets, visit (promo code: military). - Veterans Day ceremony: With more than 400 combat flight hours, 141 combat sorties and nine medals and decorations of honor for his service, this year鈥檚 Veterans Day Ceremony keynote speaker and CU-麻豆官网 alum Retired Major George 鈥淐hip鈥� Jones, Jr. spent more than 23 years in the Marine Corps. During this time, he also lettered in football at CU-麻豆官网 and graduated with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in Business Administration. The ceremony, sponsored by the Office of Veteran Services, University Memorial Center, Student Veterans Association and UMC Board, begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom. According to U.S. Census figures, there are 15,000 veterans living in 麻豆官网 County. CU-麻豆官网 has at least 1,000 student veterans and veterans鈥� dependents enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs.听
The campus鈥� Office of Veteran Services (OVS) provides a 鈥渙ne-stop shop鈥� for the transition to CU-麻豆官网, success during school and post-school success.听
