The spring commencement for the 2016-2017 academic year will be held on Friday, May 12. Due to the final exam schedule ending late on Thursday night and the campuswide ceremony beginning at 8 a.m., all departmental ceremonies will begin after 11 a.m. on Friday.
Chancellor DiStefano, Provost Moore and the Dean’s Council have approved a plan to standardize departmental ceremonies and centralize the scheduling process. In the coming weeks, departments, colleges and schools will be invited to submit their ceremony requests via .
As a benefit to the colleges, schools and departments that host recognition ceremonies, a working group from the campus’ commencement committee will coordinate venue scheduling and all event management details. This includes traffic management, rental equipment and waste management as well as underwriting some of the associated event expenses.
Campus leadership recognizes this new process represents a significant shift from current practice, and has tasked the commencement committee with simplifying the process for all involved.
