With the end of summer closing in and as we get ready for school to start, there are still plenty of things you can do to make the most of it.Ìý

Rekindle your inner child and do things that make you really happy. We’ve got some ideas to get you going.

Play in the sprinklers. There is no better way to release your inner child than by running through the sprinklers on a hot summer day. Sometimes the best moments can come from the small things in life.

Use sidewalk chalk. Why not leave a nice message for your neighbor or a thank you to critical health workers who are doing their best to keep us safe. Don’t underestimate the power of your words to put a smile on someone's face.Ìý

Start a collection. Whether it’s rocks, coins, books or whatever you choose, as long as you’re having fun, there’s no limit to what you collect.

Find beauty in the sky

What we see above us, including the galaxy and stars, is one way to connect with the world we live in. Here are some ways to do just that.

Watch the sunrise/sunset. Whether you’re an early riser or a late sleeper, try waking up early to start your day with the sunrise or get outside in the evening to enjoy watching the sunset.

Gaze at the clouds. One of the simplest pastimes is looking at clouds. Grab a blanket, find a nice spot and use your imagination to see how many animals and shapes you can find.Ìý

Look at the stars. On clear nights, stepping outside and looking up can put everything in perspective. You can try counting stars or see how many constellations you can spot. Download a free app to help you name all of the constellations and planets you see.

Connect with nature

Even with physical distance, there is plenty you can do outside.

Garden. You don’t need to have a backyard to plant fruits, veggies or flowers. In case you missed it, check out how to plant a garden no matter where you live.Ìý

Go geocaching. If you want a real-world treasure hunt, check out to learn the rules and what you need to find a real life treasure.

Take a bike ride. Enjoy a ride with the sun and the streets that surround you. It can be a great way to get some fresh air.

Do it yourself

Summer is great for letting your creativity shine. From making your own homemade ice cream to taking old clothes and sewing them into a new fashion item. Check out some things we’ve put together to get you started.

Make your own popsicles. These are the best summer snack and you won’t have to break the bank.Ìý

Make your own bubbles. Mix 6 cups of water, 1 cup of corn syrup and 2 cups of regular strength liquid dish soap for the biggest, longest-lasting bubbles ever. Find things around the house to use as bubble wands like a metal coat hanger.

Make your own kite. If you don’t have a kite you can easily make your own. Check out on YouTube or other sources to take advantage of the wind and fly away.

Get competitive

Make a scavenger hunt. Whether the final treasure is a $10 bill or lifelong bragging rights, you can have fun in your own home or neighborhood. Create a scavenger hunt map and have your roommates or family members find the treasure!

Recreate an escape room. Even if you’ve never played escape room, you can check out some to help you make the most epic escape room at home.

Can you guess the item?ÌýFind a cardboard box. Cut a hole in the rectangular part of the box. Place an item in the box. Have your roommates or family members put their hands through the open sides of the box to guess the item inside.

Take advantage of the nice weather, try something new and most importantly find time for fun!
