Sports Illustrated Writer Rick Reilly To Speak At CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø On March 11

Rick Reilly, the well-known Sports Illustrated writer and author, will give a public talk at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø on Tuesday, March 11. Reilly, who will be on campus as a guest of the World Affairs Athenaeum, will speak at 3 p.m. in the University Memorial Center Glenn Miller Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public. A CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø alumnus, Reilly has been a writer at Sports Illustrated since 1985. He started his writing career working for the Daily Camera, Denver Post and Los Angeles Times, before moving on to Sports Illustrated.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Conservation Campaign Announces Water, Energy Savings

A water conservation program at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø will result in savings of 66 million gallons of treated water when all parts of the plan are implemented this year. The annual water conservation includes 8.75 million gallons of treated water saved at Folsom Field and other athletic fields, 36 million gallons from three building conservation projects and 21 million gallons at the campus powerhouse, said Robin Newsome-Suitts, chair of the Campus Resource Conservation Committee.

Groundbreaking Nicotine Research Nets Award For CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Professor

An award for groundbreaking research on the neurochemical effects of nicotine was given Feb. 20th to University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø Professor Allan Collins by the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco. Collins, a professor of psychology and a faculty fellow in the Institute for Behavioral Genetics at CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø, won the Langley Award for Basic Science in Nicotine Pharmacology as a result of a number of important nicotine addiction discoveries made in his lab.

Scott Carpenter Talk, Book Signing Rescheduled To March 4 At CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø

Former NASA astronaut Scott Carpenter, the second American to orbit Earth, will talk about his new book, "For Spacious Skies: The Uncommon Journey of A Mercury Astronaut" on Tuesday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø. The talk is in the Old Main Chapel and is free and open to the public. Initially scheduled for January, the talk was rescheduled after a death in the Carpenter family. Kris Stoever, Carpenter's daughter, co-authored the book and will take part in the discussion.

German Consul To Speak On "The German Position On Iraq" March 5 At CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Researchers Conduct Most Sensitive Search For New Forces

University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø researchers have conducted the most sensitive search to date for gravitational-strength forces between masses separated by only twice the diameter of a human hair, but they have observed no new forces. The results rule out a substantial portion of parameter space for new forces with a range between one-tenth and one-hundredth of a millimeter, where theoretical physicists using string theory have proposed that "moduli forces" might be detected, according to the researchers.

Tim Wirth, who represented Colorado in Congress from 1975 to 1993, will be on campus at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø March 3 to talk about the link between sustainability and energy. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom located in the Fleming Law Building and is free and open to the public.
