CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Researchers Developing "Flu Chip" For Fast, Accurate Diagnosis

A team of researchers at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø is developing a "Flu Chip" that will aid physicians in swiftly diagnosing respiratory illness for future flu seasons. The Flu Chip will allow doctors and public health officials to differentiate between three types of influenza and other viruses that cause similar clinical symptoms, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Natural Hazards Center Funds Two California Wildfire Studies

The Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø is funding two "Quick Response" studies in the aftermath of California's recent catastrophic wildfires. One study will examine residents' evacuation behavior during the wildfires and the other will look at how politicians and the media interpret and assign responsibility for the fires. The Quick Response studies were funded by the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Natural Hazards Research and Applications Information Center, in cooperation with the National Science Foundation.

Air Force B-2 Bomber To Perform Flyover At Folsom Stadium For Missouri Game

A U.S. Air Force B-2 bomber will perform a flyover at Folsom Stadium at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø during the beginning of the Colorado-Missouri game, which kicks off this Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. The flyover will occur right after the singing of the national anthem, a few minutes before the game at about 12:23 p.m., according to Michael Grant, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Readies for Flu Clinic as First Four Cases are Confirmed

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY Photographers are welcome to take photos of students, faculty or staff members getting flu vaccinations today from 2:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Wardenburg Health Center at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø. Wardenburg Director Robert Cranny is encouraging students, faculty and staff members to participate in Thursday's annual flu and meningitis clinic. According to Dr. Thomas Kunstman, the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø clinic has confirmed four cases of Type A influenza from walk-in cases this morning. All of the confirmed cases are of CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø students.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø To Host Student Award Luncheon Nov. 13

The University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø is hosting the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation's annual luncheon honoring some of Colorado's top science students on Thursday, Nov. 13, at noon at the Millennium Hotel in Â鶹¹ÙÍø. At the private luncheon, the Denver chapter of the ARCS Foundation Inc. will give $149,000 to 29 science students from CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University and CU-Health Sciences Center. The scholarships go to students who demonstrate strong character, excellence in their work and financial need.

Films Of Stan Brakhage Presented By CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Friends Of The Libraries

The CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Friends of the Libraries will present five films and discuss the life and work of internationally known avant-garde filmmaker Stan Brakhage in "Movshovitz 'Illuminates' Brakhage" on Friday, Nov. 14. The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in room 1B50 of the Eaton Humanities Building on the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø campus. A reception will follow the presentation. Pay parking will be available in the Euclid Avenue Autopark.
