Global Positioning Systems Topic Of CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Lecture

The University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø physics department will complete its new monthly Saturday Physics Series with a presentation on "Global Positioning Systems" on Saturday, April 12. Physics Professor Neil Ashby will explain the physics behind GPS technology and some of its extraordinary uses during his talk at 2 p.m. in Duane Physics room G1B20.

CU Nobel Laureate Thomas Cech To Give Gamow Lecture April 2

Nobel laureate Thomas Cech, president of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, or HHMI, and a University of Colorado distinguished professor, will give the 2003 Gamow Memorial Lecture on campus on April 2.

Colorado Court Of Appeals Hearing At CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Rescheduled On April 3

The Colorado Court of Appeals hearing originally slated for March 18 on the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø campus has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 3, due to the March 18 snowstorm. Lawyers will present their arguments in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø School of Law from 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Lawyers and students are encouraged to attend the event because the presiding judges will take questions from the audience after oral arguments.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø To Host "Expanding Your Horizons" Career Conference For Middle School Girls April 12

The ninth annual "Expanding Your Horizons" career conference, aimed at encouraging middle school girls to pursue careers in science, math, technology and other non-traditional careers, will be held at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø on Saturday, April 12. The career conference, which is sponsored by CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø and the American Association of University Women, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. in CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø's Engineering Center Complex. Registration will be in the Engineering Center Complex lobby.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Students Join With CU Departments To Launch Biodiesel Buff Bus

The University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø on April 2 will begin running one of its student "Buff" buses on 100 percent biodiesel fuel, an alternative fuel made from used cooking oil that will be collected from residence halls and other kitchens on campus. The demonstration project, led by engineering student Andrew Azman with support from the CU Environmental Center, will make CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø the second campus in the nation to power part of its fleet with 100 percent biodiesel. The University of Montana was the first.

Preserving American Indian Languages Is Topic Of April 2 Lecture By CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Professor

"Native American Languages in the West: A Prognosis for the Future" will be addressed by CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Associate Professor Andrew Cowell as part of the Chancellor's Community Lecture Series on Wednesday, April 2. The talk will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Chautauqua Community House at 900 Baseline Road in Â鶹¹ÙÍø and is free and open to the public. No reservations are required.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Bicycle Bash Featuring Buff Bus Biodiesel Set For April 2 At UMC

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to dust off their bicycles and get ready to ride to the first CU Bicycle Bash Featuring Buff Bus Biodiesel on Wednesday, April 2. The CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Environmental Center and Parking and Transportation Services are sponsoring the bash from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University Memorial Center's Dalton Trumbo Fountain Court. The bash will feature the unveiling of the new Buff Bus Biodiesel project, the University of Colorado Credit Union bike loan program and the CU Student Bike Rental Program.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Friends Of The Libraries Present "Artists' Books Revealed: Personal Lives And Wild Imaginations"

The University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø Friends of the Libraries will present "Artists' Books Revealed: Personal Lives and Wild Imaginations" on March 25. The event is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Center for British Studies on the fifth floor of Norlin Library at CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø. Entrance to the library will be through the west doors. A preview exhibit of artists' books will be on display at 6 p.m. in Norlin's Special Collections Department. A reception will follow the program, which is part of the Friends' annual Treasures series.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Class of '03 Faces tight Job Market

Employer recruiting on college campuses continues to decline and jobs for new college graduates remain scarce, said job placement officials at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø. CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø's career fairs and on-campus interviewing have slumped along with universities all over the country, said career services Director Gordon Gray. The number of employers interviewing on campus fell from 177 in the fall of 2000 to 92 in 2001. This past fall, it shrank to 82.
