CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Risk Management Office To Be Consolidated At CU System Level

Risk management services at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø will be consolidated with those of other CU campuses under the system-wide University Risk Management Department, effective March 14, 2003. The merger is intended to increase efficiency through shared resources and greater coordination of programs throughout the four-campus university system, according to Paul Tabolt, CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø vice chancellor for administration. Currently, Â鶹¹ÙÍø campus risk management reports to Ron Ried, assistant to the vice chancellor for administration.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Announces Details On Budgetary Cutbacks

Detailed information on budget reductions totaling about $11 million at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø was announced Tuesday, Dec. 10, by Chancellor Richard L. Byyny at a campus-wide open forum. In his remarks at the forum in the Glenn Miller Ballroom, Byyny said the campus will eliminate 33.5 vacant faculty positions, 26.25 vacant staff positions and 21.55 filled staff positions resulting in layoffs. Also, he said, selected operating budgets will be cut by nearly $2.1 million.

Memorial Scheduled Dec. 12 For CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Student Zach Martin

A memorial service for Zachary Tyler Martin, a University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø student who died in a car accident on Nov. 28 in Arizona, is being held Thursday, Dec. 12, at 5:30 p.m. in the Old Main chapel on campus. Martin, 25, was a senior at CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø majoring in the journalism news editorial sequence through the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He was the son of Kathy and David Martin of Snellville, Ga.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Celebrating 50-Year Collaboration With NASA

The effort will be led by the Alliance for Technology, Learning and Society, a campuswide initiative aimed at preparing all students for lives in the information age.

Salvage Logging Does More Harm Than Good, According To New CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Study

Salvage logging after rare, hurricane-force winds blow down western coniferous forests can cause more damage than the original wind disturbance, according to a new University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø study. Researchers from the CU-based Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, or CIRES, have been studying the ecological effects of salvage logging following an astounding tree "blow-down" in Routt National Forest in northwestern Colorado during October 1997, said doctoral student Cristina Rumbaitis-del Rio and Professor Carol Wessman.
