Recruiting Down Sharply At CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø; College Grads Face Tough Job Market

Recruiting and job interviews have dropped nearly 50 percent at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø, a trend that university officials are observing across the country. "This year we're experiencing a more than 40 percent decline in employer participation in the recruiting process," said CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Career Services Director Gordon Gray. On-campus interviews have declined 48 percent from fall 2000, and job fairs are no longer full of companies aggressively seeking graduates.

Top Management, Not Financials Or Product, Indicates Value Of Internet Companies, Paper Finds

The quality of top management has a greater impact on the valuation of Internet companies at an initial public offering than financials, according to a paper written by Thomas Dean, management professor at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø Leeds School of Business. Dean's research found that because Web-based ventures often lack physical assets characteristic of non-Web-based ventures -- such as a plant or equipment and, in some cases, a tested product -- the management team's knowledge and experience is the leading determinant of a company's value.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Students To Bike Across America For The Disabled

Four University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø students will bike nearly 4,000 miles across America this summer in an effort to raise money and public awareness of people with disabilities. Adam Bacon, Will Kramer, Erik Estrada and Ryan Roth will ride in the Journey Of Hope cycling tour, beginning June 2 in San Francisco and ending Aug. 4 in Washington.

The Off-Campus Student Services Office at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø will host an Off-Campus Housing Fair for students on Wednesday, March 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the University Memorial Center. The fair will allow students to collect information on housing opportunities for next year from a variety of property management companies and landlords, according to Susan Stafford, center director.

Internationally Known Philosopher To Lecture At CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø March 18

Daniel Dennett, a distinguished philosopher and leading proponent of the computational model of the mind, will give a public talk at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø on Monday, March 18. Dennett, who will be on campus March 18-19 as a guest of the World Affairs Athenaeum, will speak at 3 p.m. in Old Main Chapel about "Darwin's Dangerous Idea." The event is free and open to the public.

CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Students Collaborate On Race Car With Students In England And Singapore

University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø engineering students will participate in a first of its kind, round-the-clock Global Design Initiative with students in England and Singapore March 11-15. The goal of the project is to design a race car in just five days by taking advantage of successive time zones to do 24-hour-a-day design. Students from Aston University in Birmingham, England, and Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore will collaborate with CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø students on the design, with each team handing off their work electronically to the next group at the end of the day.

Mike Errico And Bobby Lee To Perform At Trivia Bowl At CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø April 4

A free concert and comedy show featuring guitarist Mike Errico and comedian Bobby Lee will be presented Thursday, April 4, by the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Program Council. The show is at 8 p.m. following the last Trivia Bowl game of the day in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the University Memorial Center, located at Broadway and Euclid Avenue. The event is presented to CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø students and the public as part of the 2002 Trivia Bowl entertainment.

The Â鶹¹ÙÍø Police Department, in conjunction with the Hill's Responsible Hospitality Group and the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø's A Matter of Degree Program will implement the program citywide in Â鶹¹ÙÍø soon.
