For the first time on the campus of the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø, a fall break is being instituted this year on Oct. 5-6, providing a two-day break during which classes will not be held. "The break is designed to give students a short breather during what would otherwise be 12 weeks of continuous classes between Labor Day and Thanksgiving," said William Kaempfer, associate vice chancellor of academic affairs.

Fraternity and staff members from the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø will distribute about 500 balloons to senior centers in Â鶹¹ÙÍø on Friday, Sept. 29, following a day-long campus career fair at the Coors/Events Conference Center. Several volunteers from the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and the CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Office of Community Relations will deliver the black, gold and white balloons from the fair to senior centers and residence homes in Â鶹¹ÙÍø. The balloons will be delivered Friday from about 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

An internationally known group of speakers will gather at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building, room 140, to debate the possibility of intelligent life beyond Earth. Panelists at the free public symposium, "Is There Intelligent Life Elsewhere?" will talk about the ongoing search for life away from Earth and will dissect some of the major questions surrounding the idea, before opening the floor for debate.

Planetary Scientist Steven Lee will continue the Fall ChancellorÂ’s Community Lecture series with his presentation of "New Views of Mars: The History and Future of Mars Exploration" at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, at The Academy. The program is free and open to the public and attendees will be able to use 3-D glasses during LeeÂ’s visual presentation. The program will show how telescopic and spacecraft observations have been used to explore the planet Mars.
