Reaccreditation Team To Visit CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø Campus

A team of higher education leaders from around the nation will visit the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø April 17-19, as part of a comprehensive evaluation for the campusÂ’ continued accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). The evaluation, which occurs about every 10 years, is conducted under the direction of the NCA Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø has been accredited by the commission since 1913.

Center For Asian Studies Hosts Spring Reception

The Center for Asian Studies at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø will host a spring reception on Friday, April 21, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Hale Science Building room 450. The reception will bring together faculty and graduate students in all fields and regions of Asian Studies from colleges across the state. Asian refreshments will be provided at the reception, which is free and open to all Colorado area faculty and graduate students in Asian Studies.

Science Explorers Program Visits Pueblo Students, Teachers

Pueblo area teachers and students in grades five through eight will spend the day learning about ozone and Antarctica in hands-on workshops for the next Science Explorers Program on Thursday, April 20. Three workshops will be presented by the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø's Science Discovery program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshops will be at the Colorado state fairgrounds. Teams of one teacher and five students will work to solve problems dealing with tropospheric ozone pollution, stratospheric ozone destruction and the harsh climate of Antarctica.

Norlin Library Photo Exhibit Captures "Shades Of Intimacy"

A photo exhibit, "Shades of Intimacy: Exploring the Mystery of Relationship . . . With Ourselves, With Each Other, Without Bounds," is now on display at CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø's Norlin Library. The exhibit runs through June 14 at the Norlin Library art gallery, located on the third floor in the northwest section of the building. The exhibit marks the first showing of Â鶹¹ÙÍø photographer Jan Autrey's black and white nudes. A reception for the artist will be on Friday, April 21, from 7 p.m. to p.m. in the British Studies Room on the 5th floor northwest in Norlin.

CU Symposium Examines Racism And Equity In The Environment

Experts and activists in the field of natural resources law and social justice will gather at the Tattered Cover Bookstore in downtown Denver April 14-15 for a symposium on environmental justice and social equity in the use and conservation of natural resources. Nationally acclaimed history Professor Patricia Limerick of the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø will deliver the keynote address on the role of ethnicity in environmental thought on Saturday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m.

Vice Chancellor Candidates To Visit Campus In April

Four finalists for the position of vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø will begin campus visits April 16. Members of the campus community are encouraged to attend the candidatesÂ’ open forums and offer feedback to the search committee, chaired by Allen, associate chair and associate professor of the communication department. "We were fortunate to receive applications from numerous professionals who have demonstrated their commitment to student services," said Allen.

OYATE Hosts Native American Awareness Week April 9-14

The Oyate Indigenous Student Organization at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø will launch Native American Awareness Week with the Oyate Traditional Powwow on Sunday, April 9, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the University Memorial Center Ballroom. The Powwow will feature drummers, dancers and singers from across the state and is free and open to the public.

Astronomer Royal Of Great Britain To Lecture At CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍø April 20

The Astronomer Royal of Great Britain, Sir Martin Rees of Cambridge University, will give a free illustrated lecture on the evolution of the universe at the University of Colorado at Â鶹¹ÙÍø on Thursday, April 20. Rees will lecture on "Six Cosmic Numbers: Understanding the Beginning and the End" at 8 p.m. in Macky Auditorium. The 35th George Gamow Memorial Lecture is intended for general audiences.

Business Leadership Program Deadline Approaching April 14

A free business leadership program for high school juniors from diverse backgrounds is being hosted by CU-Â鶹¹ÙÍøÂ’s College of Business in June. Applications are being accepted through April 14. The program, which provides students with a business background and computer skills, runs from June 11 through June 17 on the Â鶹¹ÙÍø campus. To qualify, students must be African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, American Indian or multiracial/biracial.
