Contamination Survey

We instituted the contamination survey reporting program to help maintain safety for researchers using unsealed sources of radiation. Laboratories where unsealed materials are present should follow these three steps:

  1. Laboratories should be surveyed with filter wipe smears to check for loose contamination each week (defined as Sunday-Saturday) that unsealed radiation is used in the lab
  2. All survey results and print-outs should be stored in a binder in the laboratory for perusal during audits
  3. Each month, every laboratory licensed for unsealed radioisotopes (even if radioisotopes are not used), needs to submit a Contamination Survey Report to the Radiation Safety Unit. Please note that this report must be submitted from a University computer (either on campus or with VPN).
