This May, Governor Polis signed into law bipartisan legislation protecting Colorado鈥檚 wetlands and streams in the wake of the Supreme Court鈥檚 Sackett decision. Handed down in 2023, Sackett redefined 鈥渨aters of the United States鈥� and rolled back federal protections for isolated wetlands and ephemeral and intermittent streams, which are especially important in western headwater states like Colorado. By passing HB-1379, Colorado has become the first state in the country to respond to the 鈥済ap鈥� of unprotected waters created by the Sackett decision.

The summer months serve as an excellent opportunity for our Law Buffs to dive into their areas of interest and take on summer jobs and internships that help them develop their legal skills. For Lizzie Bird 鈥�23, her running career flourished during her time in law school. Besides graduating this past December and passing the bar exam in February, Bird qualified for her second Olympic games, where she will represent Great Britain in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
