What is PRSSA?

PRSSA - Public Relations Student Society of America. An organization created by Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) to allow students to build professional relationships between students and professional public relations practicers.Ìý

What are the benefits of PRSSA?

Immense opportunitiesÌýto network with professionals and increase chances of job and internship offers. Guidance of professional development (resume and cover letter skills, interview practice) and a community of like-minded people.Ìý

Do I have to be a Public Relations major to join?

Nope, all majors are welcome to join! However, the chapter meetings focus on PR and communications-related topics. If that is something you want to learn more about during college, join us!

How can I be on the PRSSA board?

To be on the board, you must be a dues-paying member. For positions such as president and vice president, there is a prerequisite of being on the board for at least a year. The board looks for active and involved members leading up to elections. Reach out to the current board members with questions!Ìý

Every year in the Spring, we develop a slate of student leaders. If you are interested in a leadership position, reach out then!

How much does PRSSA cost?

PRSSA membership is $70Ìýtotal. PRSSAÌýnational dues are $55 and CU Â鶹¹ÙÍø dues are $15.

What are the membership dues used for?

The majority of dues ($55) go to the national PRSA organization. These allow students to have benefits like a national jobs board, access to PRSA members from coast to coast, pre-professional development training and more. CU Â鶹¹ÙÍø dues cover the expenses of food during meetings, speed networking events, etc...Ìý

What is Public Relations?

Public Relations is a strategic function within organizations and businesses of all kinds. PR, when practiced at the highest level, helps a company build and protect its reputation, build relationships with key stakeholders and contribute to society in a purposeful way.Ìý

What is the graduation cord policy?

Students who want to wear a PRSSA legacy cord at graduation must apply to the PRSSA faculty adviser 60 days before graduation and show s/he meets the criteria below.ÌýÌý

The faculty adviser will consult with the student board president and fellow APRD faculty to make final decisions about awarding graduation legacy cords for PRSSA students.Ìý

The criteria to wear PRSSA legacy cords are as follows. A student is required to:ÌýÌý

  1. Serve at least one academic year on the student executive board or as a committee chair.Ìý
  2. Serve the chapter honorably during his/her membership in CU’s chapter.Ìý
  3. Represent the chapter professionally at events outside of CU (i.e. PRSSA national conference, Leadership Rally, PRSA Colorado events, etc.).Ìý
  4. Be recognized by other APRD faculty as an outstanding student in strategic communications/PR.Ìý
  5. Achieve an overall GPA of at least 3.75.Ìý
