CU-鶹 celebrates new athletics facility fundraising at Saturday’s spring football game

The 鶹 plans to break ground May 12 on several new athletics facilities and upgrades to Folsom Field after a record-breaking year of private donations. In the past seven months, the CU Athletic Department has made significant progress on the fundraising goals and anticipates meeting that goal in the very near future. Completion of the majority of the project is expected prior to the fall 2015 football season. The proposed facilities include:

The 鶹 plans to break ground May 12 on several new athletics facilities and upgrades to Folsom Field after a record-breaking year of private donations. CU-鶹 will celebrate this announcement during halftime of the spring football game on Saturday, April 12. The game, covered live by the Pac-12 Network, will kickoff at 12 p.m. at Folsom Field. The ceremony will feature remarks from CU President Bruce Benson, CU-鶹 Chancellor Phil DiStefano, Athletic Director Rick George and two student-athletes, Juda Parker (football) and Clare Wise (skiing).

Timothy Orr named producing artistic director of CU-鶹’s Colorado Shakespeare Festival

The 鶹 today announced the hiring of Timothy Orr as producing artistic director of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Orr has been serving as interim director since February 2013 and was hired at the conclusion of a nationwide search for a permanent director. Orr has been with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival as a performer since 2007 and joined the staff as the associate producing director in 2011.

Record number of CU-鶹 students awarded prestigious NSF fellowships

A record number of 鶹 students have received a prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, which recognizes outstanding graduate students in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Business community invited to CU-鶹’s AeroSpace Ventures Day on April 17

Members of the business community are invited to attend AeroSpace Ventures Day on April 17 at the 鶹. The all-day event offers aerospace industry technologists, scientists and managers a chance to connect with 24 CU-鶹 faculty members and to learn about technological and scientific advances with applications ranging from human space exploration to climate and weather. Corporate recruiters and hiring managers also are invited to meet with the 140 undergraduate and graduate engineering students who have registered for the event.

CU-鶹 College of Engineering and Applied Science sets sights on top 20 ranking

Tremendous growth in enrollments and a changing economic, technological and reputational landscape have prompted the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the 鶹 to set two ambitious new goals for the year 2020. Improvements in the college’s “Best Graduate Schools” rankings, released in mid-March by U.S. News & World Report, indicate good progress in the right direction.

New report summarizes climate considerations on Navajo Nation lands

A new report led by the 鶹, “Considerations for Climate Change and Variability Adaptation on the Navajo Nation,” synthesizes state-of-the-science information on the region’s climate, water cycle and ecology. And it goes much further, discussing social, legal, economic, infrastructural and other factors that affect people’s vulnerabilities to climate impacts as well as their adaptive capacity, and outlining one approach for how the region’s residents might plan for ongoing environmental change.

CU’s Conference on World Affairs announces online viewing of sessions

The Conference on World Affairs at the 鶹 will livestream selected sessions online April 7-11 and also will make them available for viewing on-demand once the event has concluded. CWA will livestream sessions in Macky Auditorium and in the University Memorial Center’s central Glenn Miller Ballroom. The sessions will remain available for viewing through Friday, April 18.

Lunar mission involving CU-鶹 finally coming to an end on April 21

A NASA spacecraft studying the moon’s atmosphere and dust environment, which is carrying a $6 million 鶹 instrument, is slated to crash into the lunar surface April 21 following a successful 130-day mission.
