Faculty CD Release: Dusinberre & Korevaar

Faculty members Edward Dusinberre, violin and David Korevaar, piano have just released a new recording of Beethoven’s Violin Sonatas Nos. 9 “Kreutzer” & 10 on Decca. This recording was funded by grants from the Council on Research and Creative Work and from the Graduate Committee on the Arts and Humanities at the University of Colorado. The recording can be ordered from Presto Classical.

Panoramic Flutist Seminar 2010

July 9, 2010

The 2010 Panoramic Flutist Seminar was held June 1-4 at CU. 44 flutists from the US, Mexico, France, Korea, and New Zealand were in attendance. Flute faculty included CU’s Christina Jennings, Rice University Full Professor Leone Buyse, and Jean Ferrandis- the extraordinary International soloist. Margaret McDonald and David Korevaar were the seminar’s amazing pianists.

Instructor of Music Theory Paul Miller was invited in May to perform on three historical string instruments in the Wilkins Collection of the Library of Congress, in Washington DC. These instruments were donated in 1937 by Dr. H.

Kathleen McGuire (DMA, 2000)

Alumna Kathleen McGuire (DMA, 2000) was one of only six conductors nationwide to have been awarded a special citation in 2010 from The American Prize for Excellence in Music Education, for her work with the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. It is a recognition of distinction, noting her as among America’s finest teachers of the art of music.

AMRC Curator Wins CU President's Award: Laurie Sampsel Receives 2009 Provost's Faculty Achievement Award

Laurie Sampsel, faculty director of the Howard B. Waltz Music Library, is the recipient of the 2009 Provost’s Faculty Achievement Award. The award comes with a $1,000 research/creative work grant and a plaque. The commendation from Interim Provost Stein Sture noted Sampsel’s 2008 book on music research published by Oxford University Press. Laurie was recognized at the Fall Convocation on October 16, 2009, in Old Main Chapel.

It has recently come to the attention of the University of Colorado that door-to-door magazine salespeople have been falsely representing themselves as members of a “CU orchestra” raising money for a trip to Europe. Arvada is one of the cities in which these impostors have been spotted in recent weeks.
